Chuck's 1991 Wrangler SE

Our current trail rig is the old daily commuter. It is a 1991 Wrangler SE with a 4.0L Fuel Injected 6 cylinder, 5 speed AX15 transmission and was purchased new in May of 1991. Used as a daily commuter since then it has racked up over 160,000 miles before being reincarnated into a trail rig. It replaces our old 1953 M38A1 which was a very capable trail rig but lacked creature comforts and street manners.
The Wrangler was modified for trail use by lifting it 5.5" using a Rubicon Express Spring Over kit which allowed the installation of 33x12.50x15 BFG Mud Terrains on Eagle 589 wheels. This drove a need for traction bars which were custom fabbed and have helped a lot. Factory fender flares were replaced using Xenon 6.5" flares. The axles were upgraded using 4.56 gears and ARB air lockers front and rear. A Ford 8.8" with disc brakes from a 1998 Explorer was installed. The new ARB for the 31 spline 8.8's is an impressive piece for sure. Easy to install and very rugged. I would like add a full floater kit to the 8.8" but that will have to wait until my ship comes in. The transfer case was replaced with an Advance Adapters Atlas II transfer case with 3.8:1 low range. A WARN 9000i was mounted on a custom built front bumper. The rear bumperettes were trashed and replaced with a custom built bumper and swing out tire carrier.
So far I am pleased with the modifications. Road handling and ride do not appear to be adversely affected.
Interior upgrades include front Steel Horse speaker seats and a sound bar. Should be able to hear the OLDIES at any speed now.
Future add-ons include one or two things I havent thought of yet, but I'm sure they are real important.
