Ken and Lana

Of the club members I think we take the cake for shear numbers of vehicles that we own or have owned. 9 Jeeps ranging from a 52 Willys CJ-3A to a 2001 TJ, which ends up being the last purchase. The field is narrowing down, but the parts are numerous. The Jeeps we currently run are two 97 TJ’s. The green TJ was ordered when they first came out with the body style and has been the slowest one to build up. I used it as a daily driver and didn’t want to modify yet, plus my wife had a 76 CJ5 with a built AMC360, but I will save that for the end. The green TJ is currently lifted with a 3" Tera-Flex suspension, 1" bodies lift running 33" Goodyear’s on 15x10 wheels, beadlocked wheels are on the way. The gears have been lowered to 4.10’s and have a rear ARB and soon a front one will be joining it. A belly up transfer case skidplate has been recently added and a high pinion rear end may be necessary to eliminate the driveline vibrations. Exterior addons included Curry rock crusher swing away tire carrirer, self made front bumper holding 9000xi. Future plans include, High pinion rear end, 4:1 in the T-case, home made rock rails and a stronger roll cage.

The blue 97 TJ was purchased as a light roll over. opps. I think it would have been better to call a full rollover considering the work we have done to it. The right rear corner was cut off and replaced with a new one, the tub and frame was stretched between a dump truck and winch. New fender, windshield, rollcage, and hardtop rounded out the major purchases for rebuild. But it did come with a Cherokee frontend, which was kind of cool. After most of the body was fixed a 3" bodylift and 1" bodylift were added. After its first run a Warn winch was added. The jeep survived a year until Lana’s husband did something stupid and broke the rear end. As with all of his breakages Lana gets more cool stuff. The gears were lowered again to 4.88’s, since the plan was to run 35’s so she could keep up with the rest of the club. An Explorer with disc brakes was located for relatively cheap and with Rick’s help it was adapted to a Tj suspension. Along with the lowered gears, ARB’s were added front and rear. Coil spacers were added for a cheap lift to fit the 35’ SSR’s that were fitted on 15x10 Aluminum wheels. A belly up t-case was added because she thought mine looked neat. Future plans include bumpers, rock rails and Warn’s new TI winch.

The next project will be a 1982 Jamboree, sprung over with Dana 60’s filled with ARB’s and 4.88 gears. A 327 will power it backed by a SM420 transmission linked to a Dana 300 tcase. Beadlocked Mickey Thompson Classic II’s will be mounted to 37x12.5x17’s. Of course with the usual compliment of heavy duty bumpers and rollcage.
